Royal York and Royal Albert Tea Cup | Second Chance {Part 2}

Royal York Royal Abert Antique Tea Cup Collection
The birds are gleefully singing in the rain today, as if the sound of the raindrops falling on fresh green leaves were music accompanying the sweet songs of the little singers.  A lovely chorus lingers in the air in this quiet, otherwise gloomy day... April showers this year seem to have extended over to June.  I guess it's a perfect time to sit and sip some warm tea while I try to write about my collection of pretty little tea cups.

"Ah, we're not that sweet that we're gonna melt," my lovely 75-year-old friend would always say as she would insist on going out for a lovely walk.  A different twist from what Papa's words of old: "Only salt melts under the rain, go on, have fun!" And my sister and I would have a great time playing and dancing in the rain.

Before the rain clouds became too heavy, I managed to take some photos of my Royal Albert and Royal York tea cups that I purchased not too long ago in an antique shop called Second Chance.  What a lovely name.  Many beautiful pieces of art are displayed in this lovely, homelike shop that do deserve to be given another chance at a warm, loving home.

Fine gild with light sprays of gold ink over pretty pink flowers and green foliage made me fall in love with this Royal Albert Tea Cup instantly.  It is almost pristine, with no sign of wear and tear.  Perfect!  The back stamp doesn't say the design name, but I gather the shape of the cup is called "Victoria." I carefully sat it aside in a safe place while I continued to feast my eyes in other delightful little tea cups in their crowded cupboard.

Royal York Royal Abert Antique Tea Cup CollectionMy dear friend who was out and about with me that day chose this Royal York cup.  It reminds me of Rococo art {It might be, I don't know.}  There is nothing like it in my cup board yet and it is really pretty.  Just a little sign of old age that adds to its beauty, it's scratches and some faded colors are not readily noticed.  It's bold colorful design would take your breath away before you could see them.  When the milk's pure white color and that dark black tea dances together, only the scent of warmth will fill the air.

Besides the crowded tea cup space in a hidden room, they also have an array of colorful, delicate tea cups set inside antique china cabinets that would just take any tea-cup enthusiasts hearts away.  How pretty they shine under those cabinet lights, well displayed in their own sweet spots... I do not shy away from admiring them.  I cherish the chance to touch them, pretending to drink tea from them like that lovely lady from many years ago would have done.  But I would gently return them to their places as the price tags intimidate my humble budget.  So off to the room with a crowded tea cup collection I go to search for that wonderful little thing that suits my taste and my wallet.  Persistence and patience did not disappoint at this moment.

 The best gift in life is a second chance...

It's lovely indeed to take a nice afternoon walk to these antique shop. Each piece is a history that can fill one's imagination with times past... My friend and I would laugh as we make-up stories about the things we see interesting.  What story can you make out about this antique Cutex Travelling Set?

  1. Hello Maya,
    Both of those teacups are lovely. I always enjoy seeing a Royal Albert but somehow the Royal York catches my eye today. I believe my cousin has one very much like it and I always admire it when I see it. Perhaps that is why I am attracted to it, it reminds me of her. She lives in NB and we are close. I enjoyed your story about the antique shop. Thank you for sharing and joining me for tea. Have a lovely week.

    Blessings,
    Sandi

    1. I hear yah Margie. I don't always buy any as well. Mostly I just go and have a good time watching at all the stuff. I find them all so interesting. Fortunately, I was able to set out some money for this particular adventure so that we won't come home empty handed, which is a nice change. lol...

    1. Okay, Zaa, here is your tea (hehehe) I'm glad that you like that cup. It was in mint condition so I was really fortunate, I will reserve it for you, *wink*... I think the cutex nail box is vintage. My attention was drawn to it because I was thinking of the "lady" that might have used it a long time ago. Thank you so much for your kindness. I really appreciate that. I hope you have a great evening as well. Hugs back to you :-) Hmm that made me feel loved...

  9. Such lovely teacups - I can't decide which is my favorite. We have a thrift shop here called Second Chance also - and I often find lovely items there. Sometimes even teacups - though I am trying to be practical with my space - my teacup hutch is full to overflowing.
